As per the recently published index, the Spanish passport takes the crown as the most desirable travel document for this year.

The VisaGuide.World Passport Index determined that Spanish passport holders can visit 43 countries without a passport and 106 countries without visa restrictions, solidifying Spain’s passport as the ultimate powerhouse for travelers around the globe.

“The VisaGuide scoreboard assesses various factors when determining the strength of a passport, such as visa-free entry, electronic travel authorization, visa upon arrival, electronic visa, passport-free travel, and the value of the destination. These considerations contribute to a country’s overall score.


The Spanish passport achieved an impressive score of 90.36 in this evaluation.


Here is a list of the top 10 most powerful passports according to the VisaGuide scoreboard:

This index evaluates passports from 199 countries and territories, taking into account their respective strengths based on the mentioned variables.”

The majority of countries that possess the most influential passports are affiliated with the European Union, indicating their high level of international mobility.

However, there has been a decline in the strength of the American passport in recent years. It continues to slide down the international rankings of powerful passports.

Based on the VisaGuide.World index, the United States passport is currently positioned at the 40th spot, achieving a score of 85.19.

While it is noteworthy that holders of US passports enjoy visa-free access to 147 countries worldwide, there still exist a significant number of countries where visa pre-application is mandatory, as stated by the research.

Examples of such countries include Cuba, Russia, and Venezuela, where travelers with a US passport are required to obtain a visa prior to entry.
